Manganese dioxide has a wide range of applications

Referring to the chemical manganese dioxide process technology, a new activation system of "disproportionation and activation of CEMD electrolyte as an acidic medium, oxidization and heavy mass of NaClO3 as oxidant, and impregnation of polychloride containing aluminum" was developed. The crystal-type high activity manganese dioxide cathode material was prepared by activating low activity and high-grade natural manganese dioxide roasting powder (Mn2O3).With rich liquid absorption capacity and large specific surface area, and excellent discharge performance, especially 2Ω heavy load continuous discharge and 3.9 light load discharge. The physical and chemical properties and electrochemical properties of the developed samples are close to or tend to be close to EMD.In the production of battery, electrolytic manganese dioxide can be partially or completely replaced by the expensive electrolytic manganese dioxide, which shows potential economic benefits and has broad prospects for development and application.
Manganese dioxide has a wide range of applications
Manganese dioxide is used as depolarizer for dry batteries, catalyst and oxidant for synthetic industry, colorant, discolored and iron removal agent for the glass industry and enamel industry.
Manganese dioxide is also used in the manufacture of manganese metal, special alloys, ferromanganese castings, gas masks and electronic materials such as ferrite. In addition, it can also be used in the rubber industry to increase the stickiness of rubber. It can also be used as a catalyst in chemical experiments.
Organic synthetic use of manganese dioxide
Manganese dioxide is very useful in organic chemistry. The forms of manganese dioxide used as oxides are different because manganese dioxide has multiple crystalline forms. The chemical formula can be written as MnO2·x(H2O) N, where x is between 0 and 0.5, and n can be greater than 0. Manganese dioxide is produced in a reaction of potassium permanganate (KMNO ₄) and manganese sulfate (MNSO ₄) under different pH conditions.
One chemical reaction specific to manganese dioxide is the conversion of alcohols to aldehydes. Even if the alcohol has a double bond, it will not be oxidized by manganese dioxide: CIS-RCH =CHCH2OH + MnO2 → CIS-RCH =CHCHO + H2O + MnO
The products in it don't get oxidized anymore, no matter how active they are. Diols can be oxidized by manganese dioxide to dialdehyde. Other manganese dioxide reactions are extremely numerous and can be used in the oxidation of amines, aromatics and triols.
Laboratory use of manganese dioxide
Used as a catalyst for hydrogen peroxide decomposition to produce oxygen.
Used as a catalyst for heating potassium chlorate decomposition to produce oxygen.
Manganese was prepared by thermite reaction with elemental aluminum powder.
Used as paint, yellow glass, etc.
To make chlorine gas by reacting with hot concentrated hydrochloric acid.
Reaction in the air with molten potash (potassium hydroxide) to produce potassium manganate.
Manganese dioxide is used as an autocatalyst in the decomposition of potassium permanganate.
